Troy
and Vanessa Wilkins purchased “Walts Place” back in 1996 from
Walt and Angel Tingle who had spent many years building up the business. Troy
and Vanessa decided on T&V Marine for the name – there were many ideas but
they thought this was very straight forward (although there were a couple of
phone calls earlier on for TV Repairs). Troy
had worked for two years with Walt prior to the purchase and attended school
for Johnson/Evinrude and Mercury/Mercruiser.
While in the military Troy had also worked for a
Marina in Georgia working on outboard motors.
After taking over, there was plenty to do. They would go in at 6:00 in the
morning and paint and clean, then open between 8-9 a.m. After closing it was
back to organizing and cleaning (plus Vanessa had to start learning about boats
and fishing tackle, which she admits she is still doing). Customers would come
in with their broken motor part in a piece of kitchen roll and ask if they had
a replacement and she would think to herself she wished she knew what it was!!!
There was much “I’ll just go and get Troy”!!
In the early years they were also a Stihl equipment dealer, but in 2000 they were not signed up
and so T&V Marine became solely marine parts and service.
Their main objective is to give the best
possible service they can to their customers, whether it is in sales or on the
service side.
Their longtime goal is to make sure the “Boat
Shop” stays in Mountain Home. They have worked really hard to get here but they
say they never would have made it without the help and support of their
friends, and of course their valued customers.
